Reflexology Treatment

refelexology treatmentThe first treatment will usually last for approximately an hour, and subsequent treatments will last for 40 mins. This will vary with the client's condition.

At the first consultation I will take your medical history, including questions about your lifestyle-diet, exercise, smoking, current medication, operations, accidents, and so on. This helps to give me an understanding of your health issues. You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and sit on a treatment couch or special reclining chair.

Before begining the session I will examine your feet. Reflexology does not hurt but some areas of the foot may be more tender than others. The more tender the area is the more congested it is. All areas on both feet will be worked on by applying of pressure of thumb and fingers. Naturally, the pressure used will vary with each pair of feet. During reflexology treatment some areas of the foot may feel a little tender and these will correlate with the problem areas in the body.

For optimum results, I recomend a minimum of two sessions per week for several weeks and then gradually reduce the number of treatments per week. The more chronic a problem is, the more often and longer Reflexology must be used. Remember, one does not have to be sick to enjoy the benefits of Reflexology. It is used as a "toner upper" by many people.

At the end of the treatment, you will be asked how you feel and I will talk about possible effects of the treatment. You will also be advised to drink plenty of water for at least 24 hours to help the body flush out toxins, which may have been released in the process of the therapy. After treatment you may notice increased urination, perspiration, headaches, dizziness or nausea. You should not worry about the reactions, they are a necessary part of the healing process and will pass. This is vital information to feed back to the reflexologist as it shows how your body is responding to reflexology treatment. You may prefer to talk to me during your treatment, but be careful that talking doesn't interfere with the relaxation effect. Reflexology can help you to manage many of the influences of life.

Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice. Please keep in mind that if you are looking for a reflexologist it is important to find someone who is properly trained and experienced and someone who can demonstrate just how effective reflexology can be at improving your health and wellbeing. Professional reflexology treatment cannot be learned through books alone or a quick 10-week leisure course.
